KALCHAs TULASI Box-Office Prediction…
TULASI is by far the hardest one I ever predicted… I am writing this prediction on the second day of TULASIs release… and I already read a lot of negative reviews in the media on the first day itself… As I said earlier, this negative talk and negative publicity in the media makes this prediction very harder… But I believe in my own theories… And remember, I may also go WRONG… in which case this would become another case study for me…Always remember that my predictions are based on general movie market economics that I am aware of… through extensive study of various film industries and their business over the years… like Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood etc., I also assume a lot of things just based on my GUT feeling. Movie buffs should know the fact that many a time… Great movies topple at the Box-Office and Bad movies make Crores of bucks… My predictions are not at all biased and do not favor or disregard any particular STAR. If you don’t believe in me then just don’t read any further… My effort is to educate Tollywood movie buffs about the way the movie market works and how… MANY GULLIBLE PRODUCERS are losing crores of bucks through ignorance and believing blindly that STARS make money for them which is largely untrue… The recent example being the stupendous success of an all new star cast and low budget HAPPY DAYS at the same time when a huge Banner movie toppled at the Box-Office… You can read my earlier posts to verify any doubts…
IN A NUTSHELL: Thulasi will open huge due to the number of prints being 290 (Highest for Venkatesh). And then would take over the Box-Office like a Tsunami… Thulasi would gross the highest collection in VENKATESHs career… I predict the gross collection would be a Minimum of Rs. 28 Crores and may go even up to Rs. 45 Crores IF AND ONLY IF… Mahesh Babu’s Athidhi topples at the Box-Office…
REASONS:
1. Venkatesh has always been the most consistent performer at the Box-Office… Though we do not see huge frenzy for his movies as with many other leading stars… his movies have relatively been the safest bets for the producers so far… Venkatesh mostly hits the right formula to make a success out of a movie… Same is the case with Tulasi… Though critically it is a let down… it is laden with the right formula to make a blockbuster out of nothing…
2. A cute kid always appeals to all… irrespective of A, B and C classes.
3. Clean comedy always appeals to all strata of the society. (Venkatesh has one of the best comic timings…)
4. Though in overdose, Sentiment in Venkatesh’s movies always appeal to women and especially B and C centers.
5. Currently, there is not a single MASS (B and C) appealing movie since Yamadonga.
6. Venkatesh has a C-A market whereas Mahesh Babu has A-C market… So Athidhi’s release won’t effect Thulasi negatively. But might affect positively if Athidhi flops… (If you don’t understand what I mean you are always welcome to ask…) —KALCHA

As for the first Guy/Gal’s doubt regarding A-C and C-A market… It is quite simple friend…
First, let us take Venkatesh… Largely, his collections start from villages (C) which run to packed houses even if the cities (A) ignore his movies initially… The best examples are SANKRANTHI and LAKSHMI. Both were declared below average in collections going by the A center collections initially… But as they were blockbusters in villages, the talk spread and they both went on to make some handsome profits in cities too… i.e., from Villages (C) to- Cities (A)
Then, as for Ur favorite actor Mahesh Babu… He is a young and dynamic guy appealing to the urban youth… especially girls… So when his movies release, it is very difficult to find any tickets at the original price in cities… They run to packed houses in cities (A)… and then if the movie is perceived to be a hit then the villages (C) start collecting huge amounts in the next phase… Best examples are ATHADU, OKKADU and POKIRI… They gathered super hit talk in the cities first but they were dull in villages initially… But as soon as the talk spread to villages, the movies conquered even the villages… especially POKIRI…
i.e., from CITIES (A) - VILLAGES (C)
And as for Athidhi’s market details… I’ll try my friend…

Hello my friend… The first two names that come to my mind as per my knowledge on the cine market… are CHIRANJEEVI and NTR. They both have equal pull at the A, B and C markets. But, chiru is delivering only flops at present…(Equally flop everywhere from A-B-C… except some pockets in Coastal areas..). As for NTR, he had a relief with YAMADONGA… and he too had series of flops before that without any bias to A or B or C. The proof of my explanation would be a simple question… Did Chiru and NTR had any HIT only in A or C centers? Or did they had any FLOP only in A or C centers?
Of course my explanation is relevant only after they have become major stars… I mean Chiru’s market before Khaidi is entirely different and again changed after Gharanamogudu and the like…
As for Ur favorite star Mahesh Babu… his market changed course with OKKADU and took a quantum leap with POKIRI… The A-C trend for him was slightly broken with SAINIKUDU… The movie opened huge everywhere… The reason for that is very obviously the spectacular success of POKIRI.
As for his market for Athidhi is concerned, the market details for it are being kept very secret… Although I’ll keep trying for them from my sources… I like that Mahesh Babu doesn’t overdo his Publicity and is a very reserved and simple man… Anyway… C U Later… Take Care… Bye…

I thought it was well made movie.
I think it has everything going for it….who knows….it could be a very big hit.

In one word… HIT. But as usual, with all the other Venkatesh’s movies, THULASI too is like a tortoise… Never in a hurry but surely crossing the finish line. Venkatesh’s movies never create ripples at the Box-Office, but most of the times become blockbusters. There are many examples…
NUVVU NAAKU NACHCHAVU, SANKRANTHI, LAKSHMI, AADAVARI MATALAKU ARTHALE VERULE and many earlier movies. As soon as his movies release, the general media declare them AVERAGE movies… only to wrongly promote a FAN oriented star. This time it is Ram Charan in CHIRUTHA and Mahesh Babu in ATHIDHI… But, now both the films are flops and Thulasi is slow but steady… Especially in B and C centers it is doing very well.

Raja Mouli is a master when it comes to sensing the audience’s pulse… As soon as he sensed that NTR has taken some wrong decisions in choosing the MOVIES, he concentrated on NTRs core skills. Being a Born actor, NTR needed powerful and yet Non-Seema (As audiences are rejecting them) movie to register in the brains of audiences. So he chose the next best theme… MYTHOLOGY. And what he created was magic via ART, CINEMATOGRAPHY.
YAMADONGA is a BLOCKBUSTER but not in the range of NTRs earlier movies. It will approximately collect Rs. 32-34 Crores in its entire run. It is a profitable venture for every party involved.

HI kalcha i am a great fan of venkatesh, but i always genuine, what ever u written abt tulasi is absolutely right, though tulasi is not as good as venki’s previous films, but movie is good commercial movie especially for B & C centresm i want to know what’s the tulasi’s box office status , how much we can expect from tulasi, give me genuine opinion

I sincerely apologize for my delay in giving U reply. But the fact is that I was on a FACT-CHECKING mission crisscrossing Andhra. All the records and claims of Chirutha and Athidhi are FAKE. So in order to collect the details I was checking them personally. Anyway, I will write the post on THULASI today itself. Sorry for keeping U waiting.
